Position Summary:
We are seeking a seasoned professional with 7+ years of experience in real estate development, construction project management or real estate finance to join our team as a Director in Asset Management for our construction lending division. This role will manage a diverse portfolio of construction loans across the country totaling over $950MM in current commitments—from underwriting to post-closing oversight—and will serve as a key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Construction Credit Underwriting:
- Evaluate construction loan proposals by analyzing project feasibility, budgets, timelines, contingencies and sponsor credibility.
- Conduct thorough reviews of entitlements, permits, utility will-serves and environmental documents.
- Review of general contractor suitability including assessing background, track record and review of the project-specific construction contract.
- Assess project risks and determine appropriate mitigants within the loan structure.
- Asset & Portfolio Management:
- Oversee an active portfolio of construction loans, ensuring compliance with loan covenants, monitoring construction progress and overseeing sell-out/lease-up progress
- Approve and fund draw requests prepared by junior team members.
- Generate detailed project-by-project and portfolio-level reports for various stakeholders.
- Monitoring overall market and submarket conditions around active loans
- Special Servicing:
- Manage loan modifications, workout scenarios, and other special servicing issues.
- Lead initiatives on foreclosures and stepping into projects that are partially constructed, as needed.
- Stakeholder Reporting & Communication:
- Maintain clear and regular communication with internal teams, borrowers, and other stakeholders.
- Prepare and deliver comprehensive reports highlighting loan and portfolio performance, risks, and potential areas of improvement.
- Management:
- Oversee a team of junior staff (3-5 analysts/associates)
- Preform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- 7+ years of relevant industry experience.
- Background on the principal side of multifamily and single-family real estate is preferred, such as:
- General Contracting: Experience as a construction project manager
- Development: Experience as a development manager or land development manager.
- Candidates with commercial real estate finance experience at a bank, private lender or private equity firm managing a portfolio of residential loans or equity positions will also be considered.
- Deep understanding of and direct experience with all stages of the full lifecycle of commercial real estate development—from acquisition and entitlements to design, permitting, construction, and stabilization/sell-out.
- Specialized experience in residential/multifamily development is highly desirable.
- Strong management and interpersonal skills for direct reports

- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a hybrid work environment.
Work Environment:
This is a hybrid position which requires in-office reporting to Anchor’s San Francisco office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Remote work is optional Monday and Friday.
Compensation:
The base pay range for this position is $150,000-$180,000 plus annual discretionary bonus based on performance of the individual and company.
