Organizational Description: Telegraph Hill Neighborhood Center (TELHI) is a nonprofit organization which provides services and advocacy for residents of northeast San Francisco. Founded in 1890 by Alice Griffith and Elizabeth Ashe, TELHI provides opportunities for individuals and families to enrich their quality of life. Focusing on low- to moderate income children, youth, families, and seniors, we create and strengthen community bonds, provide health and wellness programs, and broaden education and cultural experiences. Program services include but are not limited to: Infant Program (3-19 months), Toddler Program (19-36 months), Preschool (2 οΏ½ to 5 years), After School Academy (K-5th grade), Francisco Middle School Program (6th-8th grades), North Beach Chinatown Beacon Center, Youth Employment Services (YES), Senior Programs and Community Organizing.
TELHI Early Childhood Education Program provides a State-licensed, full-day preschool program for children 3 months to 5 years. Our goal is to provide a safe and nurturing environment that encourages physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development through a developmentally appropriate curriculum. Our philosophy is child-centered, rather than adult directed. Curriculum is realized through structuring the environment into interest areas, the planning of program activities to meet each child's individual needs, and the opportunity for active participation rather than passive observation. Children participate in developmentally appropriate activities that are designed to develop their social skills, enhance their fine and gross motor sills, encourage creative learning, and teach pre-literacy skills.
