Who We Are

Sauron protects your family and home, bringing the innovations of autonomous robots and self-driving cars to residential security. Our team is led by veteran entrepreneurs and roboticists, alumni of Zipline, Tesla, Apple, and Google. Sauron has raised an $22M seed round led by A* and Atomic with participation from other leading venture capital firms and angel investors, including 8VC and Flock Safety CEO Garret Langley.

The Role | Electrical Engineer

Sauron is creating a new paradigm in how homeowners interact with their properties and security systems.  As an Electrical Engineer on our team, you will play a pivotal role in leading the electrical design efforts for our security systems. You will drive the design, development, and iteration of hardware products from concept through hands-on prototyping and fabrication then onwards to manufacturing and installation, ensuring that they meet the highest standards of functionality, reliability, and design appeal.

You will work alongside cross-functional teams including perception engineering, software engineering, product design engineering, sales, and security operations to deliver world-class products. As a design lead you will also direct the efforts of external partners including layout, fabrication, and installation.

We value:

  • Collaboration, teamwork, and creative thinking.

  • Continuous building and testing.

  • Taking ownership over the full product experience from installation through customer interaction and lifecycle reliability.

  • Test-driven, evidence-based development and hands-on, rapid validation.

You will contribute by:

  • Overseeing the end-to-end conception, design, development, and implementation of our home security hardware systems.

  • Generating concepts, electrical architectures, schematics, and physical validation prototypes.

  • Selecting and integrating appropriate sensor components to support perception systems for detection and deterrence needs.

  • Collaborating with other engineering functions and with non-technical teams to ensure we are creating the best possible product for our clients.

  • Utilizing rapid prototyping to validate designs and to test function, regulatory compliance, coexistence, operational margin, and reliability.

  • Overseeing manufacturing and assembly to ensure that designs are implemented in a manageable and cost-effective manner.

  • Managing project timelines, resource allocation, and deliverables for the hardware engineering team.  Communicating status and key risks to project stakeholders.

Your background includes:

  • 5+ years of extensive, current experience in electrical systems design and development, ideally with experience in perception or security systems.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or similar field of study.

  • Proven experience leading design of products from concept to mass production.

  • Proficiency in use of layout software (Altium, KiCAD, etc) to create and communicate designs.

  • Experience in hardware testing via firmware including familiarity with PoE, I2C, I2S, SPI, UART, RS485, CAN and USB buses, and the C/C++/Rust/Python programming languages.

  • Experience using tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and spectrum analyzers.

  • Excellent ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with designers, product owners, engineers in other domains, and non-technical teams.

Nice to haves (familiarity with/desire to learn):

  • Experience working on security systems or autonomous vision systems.

  • Familiarity with packaging off-the-shelf electronics including sensors, embedded systems, and motor control systems.

  • Design of motor control systems.

  • Experience working with domestic and overseas manufacturing partners.

  • Quality control planning, review, and documentation.

  • Experience with advanced PLC programming and automation systems.
