San Francisco Friends School is seeking a passionate and experienced Lower School PE Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year (mid-August through mid-June). Located in the Mission District, SFFS serves K-8 students and fosters a Quaker-based learning environment focused on social justice, community, and reflection.
We are looking for an educator who shares the schoolβs mission and values of inclusivity, community-building, and problem-solving. Ideal candidates should be motivated, flexible, and eager to collaborate with both students and colleagues in fostering a dynamic learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach developmentally appropriate PE classes to grades K-3, promoting physical fitness, coordination, and teamwork.
- Create inclusive, engaging lessons that support social-emotional growth and resilience.
- Develop activities that encourage confidence, a love of movement, and skill development.
- Provide positive, constructive feedback and assess student progress.
- Manage and maintain PE equipment and ensure safe, positive interactions during recess.
- Foster collaboration and positive behavior in students through strong classroom management.
- Stay informed on best practices and new developments in physical education.
- Collaborate with colleagues, student support teams, and parents to promote student success.
- Participate in community-building efforts, school-wide events, and committees.
- Contribute to a cohesive school culture by attending professional development and sharing insights.
- Lead organizing school-wide events, such as field days or physical education-related school events.
Qualifications
Must Demonstrate:
- Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Child Development, or related field.
- Experience teaching PE at the elementary school level, with the skills to provide an age-appropriate, comprehensive physical education program.
- Ability to engage, support and motivate students of all abilities.
- Strong communication skills, with an emphasis on empathy and clarity.
- Openness to Quaker philosophy and a commitment to inclusivity.
- Experience working and communicating with diverse groups of students and adults.
- Organizational skills and the ability to manage both teaching and administrative responsibilities.
- CPR and First Aid certification (can be obtained upon hire).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Language skills in Spanish or Cantonese
- 2+ years of experience
- Openness to collaborating with community members on health and wellness outside of the PE classroom
Compensation and Benefit Summary
Salary Range: $3,412.50 to $6,975.00 semi-monthly ($68,250 to $139,500 annually)

Physical requirements:
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
