Job Title: MEDICAL RESPITE DRIVER
Program: Medical Respite, 1171 Mission St.
Reports To: Transportation Supervisor
Status: Full Time, Non-Exempt, Union
Wage: $24.00/hour
Hours: Sunday - Thursday, 7:30 am - 3:30 pm
JOB SUMMARY:
The Medical Respite Driver is responsible for transporting patients/clients of the Medical Respite Program to and from appointments and essential services, including initial placement in the program, and assisting patients/clients in navigating to their appropriate destinations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Respond promptly to transportation requests.
- Assist patient/clients to board and/or disembark from the program vehicle, and navigate from vehicle to and from their specific on-site destination, as needed.
- Work collaboratively with CFSF and DPH employees in an integrated team to meet shared goals.
- Provide safe and courteous transportation services to patients/clients.
- Assist patients/clients in Activities of Daily Living (ADL).
- Coordinate with and assist on-site Medical Respite staff to facilitate patient/client care.
- Maintain daily logs of client contacts, referrals, and transports.
- Maintain good communication and mutual support with other service providers, city agencies, community groups, and emergency services.
- Clean and maintain assigned vehicles.
- Adhere to established policies and procedures
- Attend training and meetings as requested.
- Other related duties as assigned.
BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Valid California Driver’s License and a good driving record.
- Minimum one (1) year of experience driving a commercial passenger vehicle.
- Ability to work both independently and cooperatively.
- Ability to represent Medical Respite to the community.
- Ability to effectively de-escalate situations and respond appropriately to client needs.
- Good understanding of homelessness, healthcare, substance use disorder, HIV/AIDS, harm reduction, trauma-informed care, co-occurring disorders, cultural diversity issues, and relevant resources.
- Able to physically assist ambulation of mobility-impaired patients/clients.
- Ability to write and speak effectively.
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccination and TB clearance required within 7 days of hire.
- CPR and First Aid certification required within 90 days of hire.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience driving a wheelchair van, Paratransit, or similar
- Bicultural, bilingual Spanish, or other SF Threshold language speaking.
- Knowledge of San Francisco community resources.
- Experience with and passion for working with at-risk client populations.
