Primary Purpose
Join University of the Pacific’s dynamic Strategic Communications Team as the Multicultural Content Writer. This inaugural role will support Pacific’s storytelling efforts and expand outreach to Spanish-speaking audiences through writing, translating, content development, and media pitching. Reporting to the Senior Director of News and Media, this position will work closely with members of the Strategic Communications team and campus partners to create bilingual content for the newsroom, web pages, social media, print collateral and other platforms. The multicultural writer will be supported by other members of the campus community who speak and write in Spanish to ensure content reviews, accuracy and support systems. A key focus area for this position will be to support a special project to translate educational and financial resources and content for prospective students and families. The Multicultural Writer will also help to identify and compose stories in Spanish and do outreach and maintain relationships with Spanish speaking media. The Multicultural Content Writer will ensure Pacific’s messaging is inclusive, accessible and resonates with Spanish-speaking communities. This position is located on the Stockton Campus. It is not remote. The Multicultural Content Writer position is partially funded by a 12 month grant with the potential to make it a permanent position once grant funding has expired. This position has the flexibility to be full time for 12 months, or part time for 24 months.

Essential Functions
Develops, writes and translates news stories, social media content and web pages for Spanish-speaking audiences. Supports media pitches by creating Spanish-language materials to expand Pacific’s outreach to Spanish-speaking media outlets. Identifies and crafts stories, research and information from Pacific that is important to the Spanish-speaking communities in California. Identifies media opportunities in Spanish-speaking markets and collaborates with the Senior Director of Media Relations to pitch stories and coordinate interviews. Working together with the faculty lead on Translates content for prospective students and their families, such as financial aid resources and college-preparedness materials. Collaborates with team members to ensure website content, print materials, signage and video productions reflect accurate bilingual translations. Provides verbal translations for video content, social media and other conversational content. Engages in community outreach efforts that align with Pacific’s mission, specifically targeting Spanish-speaking communities. Ensures all communications reflect the university’s values and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. Ensures all content adheres to university editorial standards, branding guidelines, and accessibility standards. Performs other related duties as needed to support the Strategic Communications team. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, Spanish, or related field. Native proficiency in Spanish and English with strong writing, speaking and translation skills. Five (5) years of experience in media relations, public relations, or communications, particularly in bilingual or multicultural contexts.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience working for or with Spanish-speaking media outlets. Experience working in the field of education, particularly higher education. Published professional writing in Spanish and English. Familiarity with content management systems ( CMS ) and social media platforms. Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures. Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting. Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Work Schedule
M-F normal work hours; weekends and evenings may be needed.
