Principal Software Engineer

About the Role

As a core member of the engineering team, you’ll be responsible for developing and maintaining the backend infrastructure and product-facing features that define the Scrollmark experience. You’ll work on essential platform components, collaborate across teams, and apply your expertise in building systems to drive a seamless user experience. In this role, you’ll:

• Build and maintain scalable, reliable backend systems and APIs that directly impact user-facing features

• Develop and refine distributed systems, performance optimization techniques, and integration of third-party tools, including familiarity with modern AI tooling where relevant

• Work closely with product and UX teams to iterate based on customer feedback and improve user experience

• Stay up-to-date with industry trends, leveraging advancements to enhance platform efficiency and stability

• Balance product-focused feature development with technical excellence to ensure a seamless, high-quality user experience

About You

We’re looking for someone who has:

• 5+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, delivering production-ready code

• Proven experience with backend systems, distributed architectures, and API design for scalable applications

• Strong understanding of time series data, metrics collection, and statistical analysis to drive data-informed decision-making and optimize performance

• Familiarity with modern AI/ML tooling is a plus, such as prompt engineering and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG)

• Bachelor’s or higher degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field

• A strong product mindset, with a commitment to building impactful features that drive the success of the product

• A growth mindset—you learn quickly, work independently, and are excited to build, iterate, and launch features that shape our product
