The Accounting team at Brex ensures that we have perfect financial reporting, but even more so, we serve as beta testers and power users of Brex’s financial products, providing analysis and feedback prior to product releases. Not only are we responsible for maintaining accurate books and records, we are also deeply passionate about automation and partner closely with the Engineering team to implement technological improvements.

 

What you’ll do  

The Staff Accountant will play a key role in ensuring the integrity of our financial records and in developing scalable and sustainable processes as the business grows. In this role, you will be exposed to a variety of areas, including but not limited to Brex Business Accounts, Brex card, intercompany transactions, key controls, and more. You will work cross-functionally across the organization, collaborating with our Banking Operations, System Engineers, and Product teams. This cross-functional work will take place in a detail-oriented environment where creative problem-solving is highly valued.

The Staff Accountant is expected to manage multiple priorities concurrently without compromising quality. This includes participating in cross-functional project work, reconciliations of bank accounts, performing month-end close duties such as reconciliations, journal entries, and flux analysis, as well as assisting with external regulatory reporting and audit requests.

 

Where you’ll work

This role will be based in our San Francisco office. You must be willing to work in office at least 2 days per week on Wednesday and Thursday, starting the week of January 6th, 2025. Employees will be able to work remotely for up to 4 weeks per year, for a minimum of one week at a time.

 

Responsibilities 

  • Ownership of accounting processes related to cash accounting and bank reconciliations across Brex’s domestic and international entities
  • Support for accounting processes and reconciliations related to receivables, debt, reimbursements, repayments and bill pay products
  • Closely partner with offshore team to deliver clean, consistent and accurate reconciliations
  • Analyze fluctuations in relevant ledgers and provide insights on financial trends and behaviors
  • Supporting month end close with preparation of journal entries and reconciliations
  • Identifying and delivering process improvements via cross functional collaboration
  • Creating sustainable, repeatable and scalable processes
  • Identify key controls in the areas of ownership mentioned above and ensure process documentation is complete and accurate

 

Requirements 

  • College graduate with a 4-year degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
  • 1-2 years of public accounting or private industry experience
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and address difficult situations in a professional manner 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to manage deadlines effectively
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Effective verbal, listening, and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Ability to manage multiple workflows and deliver on concurrent deadlines

 

Bonus Points

  • Knowledge and experience using NetSuite, Kyriba, Blackline, Looker, Numeric and/or other data visualization software
  • Licensed CPA

 

Compensation

The expected salary range for this role is $78,648 USD - $98,310 USD.  However, the starting base pay will depend on a number of factors including the candidate’s location, skills, experience, market demands, and internal pay parity. Depending on the position offered, equity and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package.
