Department Description:

The Interpretive Centers and Sales Department is responsible for developing and operating visitor centers throughout the Golden Gate National Parks, providing visitor information, orientation, and other direct services. Conservancy Interpretive Centers provide educational, functional, and proprietary park merchandise along with changing park exhibits. The department develops park books, maps, and interpretive and branded products, manages warehousing and distribution, operates the Muir Woods Fee Collection program, and develops and operates the Conservancy’s online sales and wholesale programs. Interpretive Centers include Alcatraz Park Stores, Muir Woods Visitor Center, Lands End Lookout, Warming Hut, Fort Point Park Store, Golden Gate Bridge Welcome Center, and Presidio Visitor Center.

Position Overview:

The Team Lead, Warehouse, (TLW) supports the Assistant Manager, Inventory, (AMI) in the movement and organization of incoming merchandise to and from the Alcatraz warehouse and daily deliveries of stock to the store. The TLW directs and oversees warehouse staff and tasks. The TLW ensures accurate checking in and quality control of incoming merchandise and communication of information to Assistant Manager, Inventory. The TLW is the liaison with retail stores receiving inventory requests and delivering merchandise on a daily basis. The Team Lead, Warehouse, supports the Assistant Manager II, Inventory, in the coordination and execution of retail barge operations. The Team Lead, Warehouse, will ensure that the warehouse is a safe working environment and that it is organized in an efficient and effective manner. The TLW is required to work a varied and flexible schedule which includes weekends and may include holidays. The Team Lead, Warehouse, is expected to wear a uniform and to adhere to uniform standards. This position requires physical labor and lifting; therefore, the TLW is responsible for considering physical safety while engaging in strenuous activity.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Sales, Inventory, Operations
• Oversees warehouse operations and inventory movement.
• Ensures warehouse operations meet Conservancy standards.
• Communicates effectively to Assistant Manager, Inventory, and Manager, Inventory, warehouse information for strategic planning and review.
• Supports Assistant Manager, Inventory, in scheduling products and supplies to be moved to and from the warehouse; coordinates inventory transfers with related departments.
• Ensures warehouse is efficiently organized and safely maintained.
• Ensures that all equipment is used in a safe manner according to training guidelines.
• Perform cycle counts per direction of Assistant Manager, Inventory, and Manager, Inventory.
• Supports Save the Rock production.
• Assists Manager, Inventory, and Assistant Manager, Inventory, to ensure steady flow of merchandise to Alcatraz Island.
• Supports Assistant Manager, Inventory, to ensure receiving and inventory standards are maintained.
• Assists with planning, preparation, and execution of annual physical inventories.
• Supports the Assistant Manager II, Inventory, and Manager, Inventory, in the planning, preparation, and execution of monthly retail barge operations.
• Ensures barge safety protocols are adhered to and barge is efficiently unloaded.
• Safely operate all warehouse equipment and vehicles after training is provided- including a freight elevator, powered pallet jacks, pallet stackers, forklifts, and utility vehicles.
• Perform basic maintenance on warehouse equipment and vehicles, e.g., change the oil on utility vehicle, charge powered pallet jack, wash equipment.
• Works collaboratively with the Merchandising team to process deliveries, stock, fold, and tag merchandise as needed.
• Works collaboratively with the Sales team to provide guest experience and operate the register as needed.
• Other duties as assigned by manager. 
Supervision and Staff Development
• Directs and oversees Warehouse Associates.
• Keeps open communication with team; sharing information, eliciting feedback.
• Instructs staff to ensure work is performed in a safe, efficient and timely manner.
• Assists in hiring, training, and coaching Warehouse Associates.
• Monitors staff performance, addresses issues and assists with performance reviews.
Safety and Security 
• Assist visitors and staff during emergencies to ensure safety is always the top priority.
• Communicate quickly and accurately to appropriate parties regarding visitor and employee safety, park resources, facilities, and assets.
• Create and maintain productive, positive, and respectful relationships with park partners and colleagues including the National Park Service, Alcatraz City Cruises, and Parks Conservancy.
• Communicate directly to Law Enforcement or EMTs when there are immediate emergencies or threats to visitors and co-workers. Notify Managers as soon thereafter as possible.

Supervision: Help Manager II, Inventory, and Assistant Manager, Inventory to supervise and coach associates.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Must exhibit attention to detail, accuracy and thoroughness.
• Must communicate effectively.
• Must be comfortable working collaboratively in a team.
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to operate warehouse equipment including powered pallet jacks, pallet stackers, forklifts and utility vehicles in challenging or unusual environments.
• Ability to operate a POS system efficiently and accurately.
• Must have a driver’s license.
• Must be competent in Microsoft Outlook.
• Must be responsible for punctuality and attendance.
• Ability to comfortably interact with visitors.
• Must remain open to changing priorities as customer and management needs dictate.
• Must have flexible availability including weekends, holidays, evening and night shifts.
• Must be willing to learn inventory management software.
• Must be willing to learn Microsoft Excel and Word.

Education and/or Experience:  2+ years of relevant warehouse experience preferred.

Physical Requirements and Work Environments:

• This position frequently requires physical labor.
• Work is performed in a Warehouse and Retail setting.
• This position frequently lifts, carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Work is primarily performed standing and walking.
• Work requires staff to take the Ferry from Pier 33 to Alcatraz Island.
• Work requires riding a barge.

Pay Rate/Benefits:  This is a benefitted position working an average of 40 hours per week. Overtime is paid for any hours exceeding 8 hours in one day. The pay is $28.00/hour (Pay Grade 11).
