This Opportunity

WSP has an opening for an Assistant Vice President - Mechanical Engineer. WSP works closely with architects and owners from around the world on large, complex projects in multiple market sectors.  This role can be based in WSP office locations including San Francisco (main office), Oakland, Sacramento and Boise, ID. 


Provides subject matter technical support and leadership for multi-site/phase due diligence, design, development, building, testing, and inspecting of mechanical systems on infrastructure, building, and construction projects in the public and private sector.  Responsibilities include the research, design, concept development, planning, installation, operation, maintenance, and optimal integration of automatic temperature control, air distribution, hydronic, and plumbing systems, equipment and processes.  Provides situational guidance to PMs and managers that address current and future challenges, and that documentation and recommendations accurately account for and address risk, innovation, and future-ready opportunities.  Provides leadership with ensuring that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.

Your Impact

  • Our Engineers work on high quality, high-profile, national and international projects. You will actively participate in the full project cycle, from the design phase through the final construction close-out. In addition, you will assist in the management of the technical team and operations of the office.

  • Lead multidisciplinary design teams that not only cover MEP services but also include Architectural Lighting, Commissioning, Technology, Electronic Security, Audio Visual, Acoustics, Renewable Energy, Sustainability and Resiliency, Fire and Life Safety, Structural, Enclosures and more.

  • Manage multiple HVAC design projects of various scale through concept, SD, DD and the CA phases; project types include, healthcare, science & technology, and institutional projects.

  • Be the main point of contact for our clients and capable of representing the team at project meetings.

  • As a member of the business development team assist with marketing / proposal efforts,proposal presentations and win work with high profile industry leading clients.  

  • Build relationships through participation in industry organizations and client interaction.

  • Responsible for the management of project finances.

  • Prepares project budgets, monitors compliance with time/schedule deadlines.

  • Plans and obtains additional work authorizations a required for scope changes.

  • Responsible for financial and client health of projects.

  • Participate in or lead strategic initiatives related to electrification, sustainability, resiliency, durability, energy advocacy and technological advancements in the industry.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering.

  • P.E. License.

  • 10+ years' experience designing mechanical systems for the built environment.

  • Strong working knowledge of building and energy codes.

  • Have excellent engineering skills (conceptual and inter-disciplinary).

  • Ability to work with our clients to determine / study different system types and provide applicable pro"s and con"s for each along with appropriate spatial requirements.

  • Hands on knowledge and experience with Revit and AutoCADInterest in career-long learning.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP"s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP"s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.


Preferred Qualifications 



  • LEED certification.

  • Possess excellent communication skills, be a self-starter / team player, motivated and able to manage/direct others (internally and externally).

Compensation


Expected Salary: $108,500 - $221,500


WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
