JOB PURPOSE

The Human Resources Generalist will play a central role in recruiting, hiring, onboarding, offboarding, leave administration, training, benefits, and payroll administration. Reporting to the Human Resources Manager (HRM), the HRG will support and partner with all departments of EDC.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Human Resources Generalist, you will handle a wide range of human resources and administrative-related tasks including:

Administrative (50%)

· Review, track, and document compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, aptitude exams and certifications.

· Become a subject matter expert on internal human resources policies and procedures in order to support employee needs and communicate our policies.

· Schedule and facilitate New Hire Orientation.

· ADP/HRIS administration and support of data integrity by performing routine audits to job, position, time off, benefits data and data entry input. Assist with compliance activities including postings, training log maintenance, and reporting as needed.

· Partner with the HRM on employee engagement, development, and wellness efforts, survey development and tracking, and organizing culture building activities.

· Partner closely with the HRM to maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, review policies and practices and flag areas for revision.

· Identify and recommend areas for process improvements and contribute to the development and integration of new processes.

· Help support the Human Resources team and leadership in fostering a culture of fun, belonging, equity, inclusion, diversity, access, and partnership.

· Take on ad hoc Human Resources projects to support the overall business objectives.

· Improve and maintain scalable solutions for employees communicating with the Human Resources Department, with high attention to customer service and timeliness.

Recruiting (20%)

· Participate in the full life cycle recruiting process by posting, sourcing candidates, screening applications, coordinating interviews, and candidate/applicant follow-up.

· Assist with onboarding functions and creating ADP profiles.

· Assist with offboarding activities.

· Throughout the recruitment cycle, assist with updating each candidate’s profile in ADP.

· Work with our general operations team to support the onboarding of new hires.

· Payroll processing and reporting.

QUALIFICATIONS

The applicant must profoundly share EDC’s mission and vision of social justice and be able to manage stressful situations with empathy and calm.

Below are additional qualifications.

· 5 years of human resources experience.

· 2 years of experience, at minimum, in a generalist position.

· Experience with recruiting, benefits, and leave administration.

· Experience with ADP Workforce Now highly desired.

· High emotional and social intelligence with experience fostering positive, strong relationships with diverse groups of people and being able to connect with employees in a way that creates trust, support, and positivity.

· Experience building, maintaining, and presenting HR data analytics.

· Knowledge of California State and Federal labor laws

· DEIBA experience is highly desired with a commitment to building a diverse and inclusive work culture that fosters psychological safety and a strong sense of belonging.

· Experience working with a Union.

· Ability to work efficiently and effectively under pressure.

REQUIRED SKILLS

· HRIS experience, preferably with ADP.

· Payroll processing experience (ADP Workforce Now Preferred)

· Must possess a high level of professional effectiveness, collaboration, integrity, and optimism.

· Must be able to thrive in an agile, mission-driven, union environment.

· Must be comfortable with data processing, using cloud technology, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Project Management platforms (Asana), and other common computer programs.

· Must possess the ability to make quick decisions and exercise good judgment.

· Must possess the ability to work on several projects simultaneously and handle a high volume of activity.

· Must be able to be tactical while strategic in actions.

CLASSIFICATION

This is a regular, non-exempt, full-time position.

UNION

EDC staff are represented by the National Organization of Legal Services Workers (NOLSW, UAW Local 2320, AFL-CIO). This position is not a union position and is not subject to the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • The position requires working with individuals during moments of extreme stress and instability. The position also requires the provision of culturally empathetic services. Some evening and weekend work may be required.
  • This role will be onsite and can be hybrid based on business needs and approval from HRM and the executive director.
  • EDC’s In Office COVID-19 Safety Plan adheres to the CDC’s health and safety guidelines and the federal and state OSHA requirements for workplace safety.

The employee is expected to be in the office (or available while working remotely) during normal business hours and to communicate with their supervisor regarding whereabouts when elsewhere for meetings or other obligations. Additionally, the employee is expected to be reachable by email, phone, and video conference as needed during normal business hours, Monday – Friday 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.

DIRECT REPORTS

The HR Generalist will not supervise any employee.

COMPENSATION

The base salary for this position is $85,000. An additional $1,000 will be added for each relevant year of experience, up to 10 years of experience. The starting salary for this position is capped at $95,000.

EDC offers a Multilingual stipend of $125 per month ($1,500 per year) above the base rate, for specific roles that regularly use oral or written communication with clients or related parties, in Spanish, Cantonese, or Mandarin, in the performance of their regular job duties. To qualify for this stipend, the employee must be fluent in one of the specified languages and pass an oral and/or written test approved by the Labor-Management Committee.

This role is not eligible for the multilingual stipend as oral and written communication with clients is not regularly performed as part of the job duties of this position.
