89bio is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company dedicated to the development of best-in-class therapies for patients with liver and cardiometabolic diseases who lack optimal treatment options. The company is focused on rapidly advancing its lead candidate, pegozafermin, through Phase 3 clinical development for the treatment of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) and severe hypertriglyceridemia (SHTG). Pegozafermin is a specifically engineered, potentially best-in-class fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) analog with unique glycoPEGylated technology that optimizes biological activity through an extended half-life. The company is headquartered in San Francisco.

 

THE ROLE

The Marketing Associate Director will play a crucial role in supporting the Commercial team in designing and executing brand strategies and tactics as the company prepares for the commercialization of pegozafermin. Reporting to the Senior Director, Marketing, this role will lead key strategic and brand initiatives, including disease awareness and education, launch planning, and other critical marketing projects. This position will require someone who can help shape the brand plan, build effective tactical plans, manage budgets and timelines, and deliver high-impact programs to drive Commercial success.

THE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the development and execution of HCP and patient-focused marketing strategies, ensuring alignment with corporate and product strategy
  • Identify and lead agency partners in the development, measurement, and enhancement of HCP and patient disease education campaign efforts
  • Lead review and approval of marketing materials to ensure all materials are in full compliance with Medical, Regulatory, Legal and Corporate guidelines
  • Actively participate in the development of annual strategic and tactical brand plans, including clear success metrics and budget requirements
  • Support launch strategy development and launch readiness process
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Medical Affairs, Regulatory, Legal, and Market Planning

THE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree (required), MBA or Master’s degree (preferred)
  • 7+ years of biopharmaceutical commercial experience, with 5+ years in Marketing (required)
  • Experience supporting a product launch is a plus
  • Experience in smaller company (or team) environments is a plus
  • Travel is required – up to 25% of the time (including weekends as needed)
  • Must be based in the Bay Area and required to be in office 2 days a week (San Francisco, CA)
  • Self-motivated, independent thinker with a proven ability to develop high-quality, impactful content with minimal direction
  • Hands-on leader who is willing to be an individual contributor in a small, dynamic Commercial organization
  • High learning agility and problem-solving skills with ability to balance several workstreams simultaneously
  • Strong project management and organizational skills (prioritization, timelines, budget, etc.)
  • Ability to translate clinical data into clear and effective marketing communications
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional partnering skills with ability to influence
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced business environment and comfortable with ambiguity

SALARY & LEVEL

89bio considers a range of factors when determining salary and level. These considerations mean actual salary and level may vary. The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location for this position in Northern California is $175,000 – $200,000.

 

89bio’s role/level assessment approach involves assessing candidates during the interview process before confirming the level/title designation. The level assessment is considered on a case-by-case basis. Offer and level is based on factors such as: education, experience, qualifications, geographic location, transferable skills, licenses/certifications and other job-related factors permitted by law.
